Wintry weather possible early Dec. 5

Alexander County Emergency Management distributed the following bulletin on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025:

Alexander County remains under a Hazardous Weather Outlook for tonight into tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 5) due to the potential for light snow and minor ice accumulation. While Alexander County is not currently under a Winter Weather Advisory, nearby Wilkes County and northern Caldwell County will be under an advisory from 7 PM tonight through 1 PM Friday. Anyone traveling near the northern county line or commuting to and from Wilkes or northern Caldwell should use additional caution during the Friday morning travel period.

Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing between roughly 3 AM and noon on Friday, which is also when precipitation chances are highest. The current forecast calls for less than a half-inch of snow, and the National Weather Service rates overall impacts for our area as limited. Even with light accumulations, slick spots may still develop, urging travelers to exercise caution, especially on bridges and overpasses. NCDOT is currently spreading brine as precautionary measures. We will continue to monitor and coordinate with NCDOT and the National Weather Service.

National Weather Service forecast maps are shown above and below.
