Fire ruins home in Stony Point
By MICAH HENRY
Residents in Stony Point escaped a house fire unharmed, along with their pet, on Saturday evening, March 14, thanks to a working smoke alarm, according to Stony Point Fire Chief Scotty Abernathy.
The fire was reported at 8:08 a.m. Saturday at 696 Marvin Church Court. Abernathy said the blaze was a working fire when the first Stony Point unit arrived on the scene.
He noted that the occupants of the home, who were not identified, had called 911 after a smoke alarm alerted them to the fire.
No injuries were reported among occupants or firefighters.
Along with Stony Point, Hiddenite, Wittenburg, and West Iredell fire departments responded to the blaze.
The Alexander County Tax Department listing for the property states the owner’s names are Judy C. Bumbarger and Jack Preston Allen.
The home was insured.
Abernathy said the fire is under investigation by the Alexander County Fire Marshal and the Office of the State Fire Marshal. It is believed to be accidental.
