Woman dies in fire March 17
The fire fatality occurred in this camper at 38 Royal Russell Road in Taylorsville on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
According to Sheriff Chad Pennell, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, along with the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal and North Carolina Department of Insurance, responded to investigate a fatal fire on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 38 Royal Russell Road in Taylorsville.
The call was initially reported as a welfare check at the residence. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased individual inside the home, a camper trailer, along with evidence indicating that a fire had occurred. There were no visible flames or exterior signs of fire when deputies arrived on scene. At this point in the investigation, there is no sign of foul play.
The victim has been identified as Sally Marshall Lackey, 67, of Taylorsville.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
