Chicken house fire extinguished April 8

Stony Point Fire Department, along with Hiddenite and Taylorsville, were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 375 County Line Rd. on Wednesday, April 8, involving a chicken house, said Alexander County Fire Marshal Chris Hicks.

The call came at about 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, said Stony Point Fire Chief Scotty Abernathy.

Upon arrival, crews found a working fire, said Hicks.

“The first-arriving engine company initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, successfully containing the blaze and limiting property loss to a minimum. Due to the rapid response and coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control efficiently,” Abernathy explained.

Approximately 100 feet of the chicken house was damaged by the fire, Hicks noted. The house is 500 feet by 40 feet in size.

This Fire Marshal’s Office photo shows the interior of the chicken house which was damaged by fire on April 8, 2026.

The chicken house is owned by Tracy Patterson and he does have insurance on the chicken house. No chickens were in the house at the time of the fire, the Fire Marshal stated.

Also on scene were Wittenburg and West Iredell fire departments for manpower, Alexander County EMS, Alexander County Emergency Management, and the Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Units remained on scene for approximately two hours conducting fire suppression and overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire is ruled as electrical in nature. No injuries were reported, Hicks said.

Chief Abernathy commended all responding personnel for their professionalism, teamwork, and swift actions in bringing the incident under control.
