Fire claims home May 14
A fire in the Wittenburg Community has claimed a home.
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, Wittenburg Fire, along with Taylorsville and Bethlehem fire departments, were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 42 Yorks Bluff Drive, off NC Hwy. 16 South, said Alexander County Fire Marshal Christopher Hicks.
Wittenburg Fire arrived within three to four minutes to find a working fire in a singlewide mobile home. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire, stopping the spread of the fire to other parts of the structure. The fire was brought under control in under 10 minutes.
The occupant was at home when the fire occurred and was able to escape with no injuries.
The mobile home was a rental unit and the owners did have insurance on the structure. The mobile home sustained heavy fire damage to the back side, the laundry room, and parts of the void space above the ceiling. The cause of the fire has been ruled as undetermined, said Hicks.
The three fire departments on scene were assisted by units from the Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office and EMS.
