Motorcycle crash is fatal

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 8:29 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on Rink Dam Road near Fess Little Road, in Alexander County. A 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on Rink Dam Road, lost control, and drove off the right side of the road before colliding with a mailbox. The motorcycle then overturned, causing the driver to be ejected, said K. Jake Macchia, SHP Senior Trooper.

The driver of the Harley-Davidson, Dean Patrick Lewis, 58, of Catawba, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.

While Troopers conducted the on-scene investigation, Rink Dam Road was closed for approximately two hours.
