Nancy Louise Hines Sherrill

Nancy Louise Hines Sherrill

Nancy Louise Hines Sherrill, 89, of Hiddenite, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Iredell Memorial’s ICU Unit.

She was born on March 6, 1937, to parents Asa and Vada Campbell Hines of Hiddenite. She was the baby of two. Her brother, Austin, was three years older and would go on to serve in the Korean Conflict.

Nancy was a social butterfly. Her earliest friend – whom she called weekly up until her death – was Fairey Stallings of Statesville. They met in first grade. As a kid, she loved dancing, talking, and taking rides with her daddy. She always talked with fondness about having him wrapped around her finger.

As a teen, she loved hanging around Chatty’s Cafe on Highway 90, where Austin worked. That’s where she met her husband of 65 years, Troy “Jeep” Sherrill. He pulled up, ordered a burger and a milkshake, and she caught his eye instead. They married when Nancy was 18 and freshly graduated from Hiddenite High School. Jeep was 19 and enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Nancy worked as a typist in Baltimore, a seamstress on the side, and a line worker at Southern Devices and E.R. Carpenter. She was a mom to six boys. Her first, Gary, died as a newborn. Her second, Terry, died at age four of leukemia. They adopted her third, Monte, and her fourth, Brian, was mentally handicapped at age two due to the measles vaccine. In 1970 and ‘72, she had their last two boys, Scott and Kevin. She was their rock. Her house was always full of her boys and their friends and the smell of her homemade biscuits in the oven.

Nancy was an avid reader, Braves fan, and member of Elk Shoals Presbyterian Church. She was sharp as a tack and loved a good joke – and any Elvis song.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Sherrill; her three sons, Gary Sherrill, Terry Sherrill, and Brian Sherrill; her grandson, Aaron Sherrill; and her brother, Austin Hines.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include sons, Monte Sherrill and wife Becky, Scott Sherrill and wife Michele, and Kevin Sherrill and wife Shirley; grandchildren, Katie Sherrill, Bailey Sherrill, Vada Sherrill, Evan Sherrill, and Darby Sherrill; great-granddaughters, Torryn Puckett and Elloree Sherrill; grandson, Bridger Sherrill; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Nancy will lie in state from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home on Thursday, June 4, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Dan Hazen will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Millersville Christian Academy or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
