Carolina West Wireless to discontinue service
After 35 years of proudly serving as a wireless provider in western North Carolina, Carolina West Wireless has entered into an agreement to transition its wireless network to Verizon and will discontinue its wireless services effective September 30, 2026, according to a press release.
Since its founding, Carolina West Wireless has remained committed to delivering reliable wireless connectivity, investing in local communities, and providing personalized customer service to the region it proudly calls home. Over the years, the company has continually invested in its network infrastructure, products, services, and customer experience while also supporting local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations.
As the wireless industry continues to evolve, the demands on wireless networks and infrastructure are growing at an unprecedented pace. The next chapter positions the local community for the future and reflects a long-term commitment to advanced wireless technology, network investment, and future-ready connectivity.
“This decision was made with the future of our customers and communities at the forefront,” said Slayton Stewart, CEO of Carolina West Wireless. “The wireless industry increasingly requires greater scale and investment to deliver the next generation of connectivity. We believe our customers and communities will benefit from continued innovation, expanded resources, and the strong network performance they rely on every day.”
The transition is expected to strengthen network infrastructure and technology while supporting access to competitive wireless services and device offerings.
All customers will need to transition their wireless service to a new carrier by September 30, 2026.
Carolina West Wireless emphasized that its focus remains on providing customers with a seamless transition experience and maintaining the high level of service customers have come to expect. The company also expressed its commitment to supporting employees throughout the transition process with severance benefits, career transition services, and ongoing communication.
“For 35 years, it has been our privilege to serve this region,” said Stewart. “We are deeply grateful for our outstanding employees and for the trust and support our customers and communities have shown us throughout the years. While this marks a new chapter, we are confident this step positions our region for continued connectivity, innovation, and opportunity well into the future.”
Existing customers will receive an exclusive offer from Verizon to assist in the transition. Additional details regarding the transition will be shared with customers as they become available.
“Carolina West Wireless has been a trusted staple in western North Carolina for decades, and we look forward to driving the next generation of connectivity for these communities,” said Jerome Cheatham, East Area President at Verizon. “As network demands evolve, Verizon brings the scale, advanced wireless technology, and infrastructure investment needed to support future-ready innovation. Our priority is to deliver an outstanding customer experience backed by unparalleled network performance and competitive offerings that keep this region connected to what matters most.”
