Bruce Elmore Benfield
Bruce Elmore Benfield, 90, of Taylorsville, passed peacefully on July 2, 2025, at Carolina Caring Hospice in Newton. He was born on August 24, 1934, to the late Carris and Effie Benfield in Alexander County.
Bruce was a loving and devoted husband, and amazing father and grandfather. He lived a life full of kindness and gentle wisdom. After serving his country in the Army, he worked in upholstery and, in his retirement, he renovated and sold golf carts with his son, Daryl.
Bruce cherished his family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors, along with tractors and golf carts. He had an unforgettable personality and was liked by everyone who met him. Bruce was an active member of Fellowship Advent Christian Church and served as a Trustee and Sunday School teacher.
He adored his grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with them, whether it was summer picnics and golf cart riding or sledding and four-wheeling through the snow. The memories of his warmth and laughter will forever be in our hearts.
He was predeceased by his brother, Allen Benfield, and sisters, Ruth Baker and DeRae Lyda.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Dorothy Benfield; his son, Daryl Benfield and wife Johnna; and daughter, Donna Crouch with husband Steve. His grandchildren include: Meredith Crouch, Lauren Crouch, Elicha Jolly and husband Dylan, and Jonathan Benfield with wife Rebekah; as well as six great-grandchildren that include: Alexandria Walsh, Kadence Childers, Payton Stafford, Kingston Flowers, and Rylan and Lakelyn Jolly.
