Early Voting underway

The Early Voting Period for the March 3, 2026, Primary Election in Alexander County began February 12.

Early Voting days during that period are weekdays through Friday, February 27, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, February 28, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Early Voting location is the CVCC Alexander Applied Technologies Center, located at 230 Industrial Blvd., Taylorsville.

“Early Voting” is in-person absentee voting. Early voting provides an all-purpose solution for those seeking to:

• Avoid potential voting delays on election day;
• Vote on convenient days and during non-working hours;
• Avoid any registration conflict that could trigger the necessity of a provisional ballot on election day;
• Update their voter records in their county of registration if they have moved since last voting; or
• Register to vote if not registered in the county (must provide proof of residence).

Races on Primary ballot

The following elections will appear on the Primary ballot:

• Board of Education: District 2 — Rob Argüelles, (incumbent, Republican) will face Chris Smith (Republican).

• County Commissioner: Marty Pennell (incumbent), Ronnie Reese (incumbent), Larry Yoder (incumbent), Marty Loudermilt, Matt Dillow, Andrew Johnson, Darren Warren, Ryan Mayberry, and Michael Pennell are all Republicans vying for three seats in the March Primary. The top three March 3 vote-getters will face Steven Warren, a Democrat, in November 2026.

• Clerk of Court: Edwin Chapman (incumbent) and Lisa Hines, both Republican.

• Register of Deeds: Scott Hines (incumbent) and Kevin Powell, both Republican.

• District Court Judge Seat 6: Martin Gottholm will face currently serving judge Jessie Conley (appointed to serve remainder of term after Bryan Corbett resigned).

• U.S. Senate: Roy Cooper (D), Daryl Farrow (D), Marcus W. Williams (D), Orrick Quick (D), Justin E. Dues (D), Robert Colon (D), Shannon W. Bray (L), Elizabeth A. Temple (R), Don Brown (R), Michael Whatley (R), Margot Dupre (R), Thomas Johnson (R), Michele Morrow (R), Richard Dansie (R).

• U.S. House of Representatives: Chuck Hubbard (D), Kyah Creekmore (D), Robert B. Luffman (L), Steve Girard (R), Virginia Foxx (R, incumbent), Roman H. “Chad” Williams II (R), Joey Osborne (R).

• NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Seat 1: Anita Earls (D), Sarah Stevens (R).

• NC Court of Appeals Seat 1: John S. Arrowood (D), Matt Smith (R), Michael C. Byrne (R).

• NC Court of Appeals Seat 2: Toby Hampson (D), George Cooper Bell (R).

• NC Court of Appeals Seat 3: James Weldon Whalen (D), Christine Marie Walczyk (D), Craig Collins (R).
