Fire damages home in Hiddenite May 2

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Hiddenite Fire Department along with Vashti Fire and Stony Point Fire, was dispatched to 55 Raccoon Hollow Drive, off of Sulphur Springs Road, for a reported structure fire, stated Chris Hicks, Alexander County Fire Marshal. Units arrived on the scene within 10 minutes to find a working fire in a doublewide mobile home.

Crews began an aggressive attack to try and control the fire. Shortly after units arrived, the roof of the residence collapsed. There were no injuries to firefighters. Command then requested Central Fire from Iredell County for manpower. It took approximately one hour to bring the fire under control.

Occupants were home but were outside at the time the fire was discovered. No injuries were reported and there were several dogs that were saved from the fire. Unfortunately, there were other dogs that perished.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family with potential needs. The doublewide mobile home was a total loss. However, the family did have insurance on the structure. Tax information shows the property owners are Tommy Ray Nance and Lynn K. Nance.

Units on the scene included Hiddenite Fire, Vashti Fire, Stony Point Fire, Central Fire, Alexander County EMS, Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office, Alexander County Animal Control, and Alexander County Fire Auxiliary, including Stony Point and Hiddenite Auxiliary members.
