Jerry Dean Southers
Jerry Dean Southers, 76, of Hiddenite, passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, on June 9, 2026, at Iredell Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Jerry was born December 16, 1949, in Iredell County, to the late Harles Southers and Margaret Ann Southers. Jerry spent his childhood in Statesville before his family eventually settled in Hiddenite.
He graduated from Stony Point High School and soon answered the call to serve his country. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, ultimately receiving a Purple Heart due to being wounded in combat.
Following his military service, Jerry returned home and built a life centered on hard work, family, and community. He worked for many years at Broyhill Furniture and later at CommScope, where he remained until his retirement.
Jerry was a man of many talents and passions. He was an accomplished woodworker and owner of Southers Woodcrafts, where he shared his craftmanship with countless friends and customers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, tending his garden, and spending weekends in Love Valley. He was especially proud of his red 1936 Chevrolet, and could often be found attending local car shows with the Apple City Street Rodders and sharing stories with other enthusiasts.
Known for his warm demeanor and generous spirit, Jerry never met a stranger. He was a natural storyteller whose tales could entertain a room for hours. He was fun-loving, kind-hearted, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Friends and family knew him as the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His servant’s heart, unwavering generosity, and genuine love for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Harles Southers.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Judy Walker Southers of the home; his mother, Margaret Ann Southers; a sister, Melissa Moose (Lynn); a daughter, Pam Southers; his stepchildren, Lisa Dollar (Brian) and Lee Robinette (Erin); three grandchildren, Aron Dollar (Kaylyn), Trent Robinette (Emily), and Maddie Robinette (Ethan); a great-granddaughter, Lilly Jo Robinette; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Hiddenite. Pastor Brian Edes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
