Jerry Wayne Lackey
Jerry Wayne Lackey, 81, a devoted family man, went to his heavenly home on June 12, 2026, in Alexander County. Born on September 2, 1944, Jerry carried forth a legacy marked by craftsmanship, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
Jerry was an active member of Three Forks Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was in the Homemakers Sunday School Class. He was celebrated for his remarkable skill as a woodworker, having been the owner and operator of Hiddenite Wood Works until his retirement. Beyond his workshop, Jerry’s heart was filled with a deep love for his family and friends, and his generous spirit to all who knew him. He loved gospel and bluegrass music and found joy in making gifts from wood for his loved ones.
Jerry was the loving husband of Sheila Mitchell Lackey, to whom he was married for 62 years. Together, they raised two daughters, Crystal Kerley (Jimmy) and Monica Herman (Lee), who carry forward Jerry’s legacy of kindness and strength. Jerry is survived by a brother, Larry Lackey (Mary); and sisters-in-law, Shelby Mitchell and Mildred Lackey. He was a proud pawpaw to four grandchildren, Mindy Herman, Jenna Galliher and her husband Shane, Trey Herman and his wife Alison, and Brittney Holland and her husband Tyler; great-grandchildren, Hattie, Willa, Emme and Maggie Galliher, and Charlie, Ava, Jackson and Sophie Holland.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Sloan E. Lackey and Arlene Waugh Lackey; his brother, Stephen Lackey of Dalton, Georgia; his sister, Sylvia Ann Davis; his sister-in-law, Teresa Hoke; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Randy Mitchell.
A visitation will be held on June 14, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Three Forks Baptist Church, 4685 Three Forks Church Road, Taylorsville. This will be followed immediately by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. Dr. Carson Moseley and Dr. Mike Runion will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Trey Herman, Shane Galliher, Scott Mitchell, Jason Harris, Justin Hoke, Brian Lackey, and Jason Lackey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Homemakers Sunday School Class and The Breakfast Club.

Jerry’s life was one of genuine warmth, creative spirit, and steadfast dedication to family, faith, and friends. He leaves behind a loving family, church, and many who admired his talent and gentle heart. His memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
