Alexander native to lead school in Hickory

Cierra Ferguson, an assistant principal at Oakwood Elementary and W.M. Jenkins Elementary in the Hickory City Schools system, was recently named principal at Southwest Primary School.

Hickory City Schools Super­in­tend­ent Dr. Jen­nifer Griffin expressed appreciation and support for Ferguson in her new role. “Ms. Ferguson is an innovative and student-centered leader who brings a strong instructional background and a passion for academic excellence. Her expertise in literacy development and instructional numeracy, combined with her collaborative leadership style and ability to build strong school cultures, make her an outstanding fit to lead Southwest Primary School.”

Ms. Ferguson is the daughter of Rev. James and Wendy Ferguson. She is the granddaughter of Mildred Ferguson and the late Jim A. Ferguson and the late Ross and Evelyna Parson.

A native of Alexander County, Ms. Ferguson graduation from Alexander Central High School in 2007 with honors. She furthered her education by graduating cum laude from Appalachian State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After college, Ferguson worked at Wilkesboro Elementary School for two years and N.B. Mills Elementary School for 10 years, as second and third grade teacher. She also served as a Facilitator. Ferguson graduated with a Masters degree in Administration from Appalachian State University.
