Vance Carl “Jack” Bebber

Vance Carl “Jack” Bebber, 91, of Taylorsville, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Jack was born on August 15, 1934, in Taylorsville, the son of the late Sheriff Elisha Bebber, Sr. and Nell Moose Bebber.

Jack had numerous accomplishments throughout his life. He was a pillar in the Alexander County community. He was co-owner of Swofford’s in Taylorsville, which later was sold to Brad Regan dba Carolina Tire. He retired after 30 years of service. He then continued his working career by working part-time at Killian’s Hardware in Hickory. He was a board member of Alexander County Crimestoppers and Blue Ridge Bank (currently First Community Bank). He was a longtime member of The Taylorsville Lion’s Club and served as President. In 1999, he retired from the Taylorsville Volunteer Fire Department. In 1996, he was recognized by the Alexander County Chamber of Commerce to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Taylorsville Christmas Parade.

Jack was an avid and accomplished golfer well into his eighties. On his 80th birthday, he shot a 70. He was proud of the fact that he had three holes-in-one. In 1963, he was a founding member of the Brushy Mountain Golf Course in Taylorsville. His other hobbies included fishing, mowing his lawn (and on occasion his neighbor’s), and riding his golf cart to be the neighborhood watchman. On Monday and Thursday nights, he played Rook with an exceptional group of people, whom he called his friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mildred Ruppe Bebber; they were married 69 years prior to her death in October 2024; his brother, Sheriff Thomas E. Bebber, Jr.; and sister, Faye Fortner Bebber.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Bebber (Mike Devine) of Springfield, Virginia, and Trish Dagenhart (Lynn) of Hiddenite; and his beloved granddaughters, Kylie Coonse and Scarlet Harrington, both of Taylorsville; brothers, Wayne Bebber (Carol) and Phil Bebber, both of Taylorsville; a number of nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Shelby Hubbard, who provided Jack & Mildred with excellent and loving care.

Jack was well known for going above and beyond for what is considered good customer service. This was a trait that he passed to his family to always treat others with respect and kindness. His customers, friends, and family always knew he could be counted on for whatever was needed. His legacy should be an example for each of us to follow.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Three Forks Baptist Church. Dr. Carson Moseley will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Andy Bebber, Chuck Bebber, Mark Bebber, Josh Fortner, Justin Fortner, and Stacy Harrington.
