Henry “Earl” Godfrey
Henry “Earl” Godfrey, 95, of Conover, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at his residence.
He was born May 29, 1930, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to the late Martin Godfrey and Alma Louise Suttles Godfrey. Earl had a deep passion for preaching the Gospel and sharing God’s word with others, and served as a minister until his retirement. He especially enjoyed thrifting, often searching for Bibles to give away, driven by his desire for everyone to know and receive the free gift of salvation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Godfrey, and son, Bobby Godfrey.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons, Dale Godfrey and wife Lisa of Canton and Matthew Godfrey of Conover; daughters, Kay Godfrey of Taylorsville, Brenda Hefner and husband Oz of Conover, Rhonda Allen and husband David of Bostic, and Tammy Robbins and husband Rodney of Forest City; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Godfrey of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Julia Godfrey, Shannon Godfrey (Talia), Heather McMillion (Jamie), Josh Little (Jessica), Somer Sparks (Chris), Cody Allen (Kim), Dustin Allen (Brooke), Nathan Robbins (Megan), and Kaitlyn Robbins; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and grand-dog, Chaco aka Choctaw.
A service to celebrate Earl’s life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Millersville Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Pastor Bill Orren, Pastor Arthur Mason, Pastor John Parker, Brother Cody Allen, Brother Nathan Robbins, and Brother Oz Hefner will officiate. A private family burial will follow at Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. at Millersville Baptist Church.
