Veronica “Vickie” Hill
Veronica “Vickie” Hill, 59, of Hickory, passed away June 3, 2025, at her residence.
Born December 31, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice Hill Lackey.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Lackey.
Vickie was a gentle soul, known by all who met her as one of the kindest, good-hearted people you could ever hope to know.
She was a woman with a smile that could brighten a room and a spirit that remained upbeat even in the face of illness. She never had a harsh word for anyone, and even when life challenged her, she met it with quiet strength, with maybe her only tiny complaint when the air was chilly.
Vickie loved God, her church, her family, and many friends. She loved to see the world, especially from the deck of a cruise ship.
Her memory will continue to shine in the lives of those she touched with her kindness and enduring love.
Those left to cherish her memory include her fiancé, Tony Clark of Conover; sisters, Eugenia Shinn of Hickory, Pam Lackey of Columbia, South Carolina, and Janice Bailey (Greg) of Taylorsville; brother, William Lackey of Columbia, South Carolina; uncle, Junior Hill (Linda) of Taylorsville; special sister, Marvella Hunt of Hickory; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah AME Church with Pastor Brenda Prince officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, let us be a little more like Veronica – kind, joyful, faithful, and full of grace. In her honor, may we strive to live with the same light and love she so freely gave.
Memorials may be sent to Mt. Pisgah AME Church in Veronica’s memory.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home is serving the family.
