Miller Walker

Miller Walker, 97, of Taylorsville, was peacefully called home to his Heavenly Father on May 11, 2026.

A dedicated man of God and a pillar of his family, Miller was an establishing member of Rocky Face Baptist Church. His life was a testament to his deep-seated faith and his unwavering commitment to his family. After nearly a century of earthly service, he now rests in the eternal home prepared for him by his Savior.

He is reunited in glory with his beloved wife of 76 years, Ruth Lackey Walker, as well as his son, Steve Walker; son-in-law, Johnny Chapman; grandson-in-law, Larry Goble; and great-granddaughter, Ellie Walker. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Walker, and his sisters, Edith Snow, Wilma Kendrick, Cecil Elder, and Betty Canter.

Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy include his daughters, Diane Chapman and Kim Stine (Joey), and daughter-in-law, Diana Jolly. Miller’s life was further enriched by his grandchildren: Johnny Chapman (Tracy), Tammy Chapman Goble, Kisha Barnes (Derrick), Shanae Collins (Wes Blackwelder), Julie Campbell (Travis), Jodi Brookshire (Barry), and Brett Walker (Samantha). His heritage continues through his great-grandchildren: Grayson Chapman (Macey Barnes), Tyler Campbell (Allie), Cassidy Campbell (Cole Bumgarner), Coleman Chapman (Natalie Mason), Jaci Collins (Dylan Davis), Jenner Barnes, Payton Campbell (Zane Ballard), Jeremiah Brookshire (Edie Ivey), Dylan Collins, Bryson Brookshire (Journie Ibison), and Addison Barnes. He was also the proud great-great-grandfather of Maeve Chapman and Mayvie Campbell. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley Walker; brother-in-law, Grover Lackey; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Miller often found comfort in the promises of Scripture, particularly the words of John 14:1-3: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Funeral services for Miller will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Rocky Face Baptist Church. Receiving of friends will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Ryan Hodges, Rev. Brian Eades, Rev. Ronald Brookshire, and Rev. Barry Brookshire. Pallbearers will be his great-grandsons.
