Donnie Phillips Lackey

Donnie Phillips Lackey, 83, of Stony Point, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston–Salem. Donnie was born on October 31, 1942, in Caldwell County to the late Newton Phillips and Flara Main Phillips. Donnie worked in furniture as a sewer until retirement. She was a member of Wayfound Baptist Church in Hiddenite.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Jacob Lewis Church Jr.; her second husband of 32 years, Waitsell Lackey; three brothers, Jordan Smith Phillips, Newton “Sonnie” Amos Phillips Jr., and Robert Bower Phillips; two sisters, Anna Lee Phillips Smith and Joyce Phillips Gryder; and a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Rick and Tayne Lackey.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Terry Church of Stony Point, and Michael “Mickey” Church and wife Roxanne of Chicago; two stepsons, Mark Lackey and wife Angie of Taylorsville, and Greg Lackey of Taylorsville; and a stepdaughter, Karen Thomas and husband Jeff of Sparta. Donnie had 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will include grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Wayfound Baptist Church, Hiddenite. Pastor Jimmy Bowman will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Wayfound Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Whitnel First Baptist Church Cemetery, 1201 Connelly Springs Rd., Lenoir, NC 28645.

Memorials may be given to Wayfound Baptist Church, 560 Wayfound Church Rd., Hiddenite, NC 28636.
