Peggy Sue Bolick Bowman
Peggy Sue Bolick Bowman, 83, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Born on January 12, 1943, in Liberty, North Carolina, Peggy’s life was one marked by steadfast love, hard work, and a spirit of adventure.
Peggy’s early years were shaped by the close-knit bonds of her family. She was the cherished daughter of Dewey Bolick and Mary Ruth McKinney Bolick. Peggy grew up alongside her siblings and carried forward the values instilled in her childhood throughout her life.
In partnership with her beloved husband, Georgy Alton Bowman, Peggy embarked on a journey characterized by both diligence and ingenuity. For much of her life, she worked sewing leather—demonstrating not only skill but a tireless work ethic. Together, Peggy and George acquired the Riverview Bait Shop, which they transformed into a thriving full-service sporting goods store. Their entrepreneurial spirit contributed meaningfully to their community and remains a testament to their shared vision.
Peggy and George’s life together was also filled with exploration and curiosity about the world. Their love of travel saw them visit all fifty states, as well as distant lands such as China, Egypt, and Jerusalem. These adventures enriched their lives and provided countless stories and memories for those close to them.
Creativity was at the heart of who Peggy was. She was exceptionally talented, expressing herself beautifully through baking, painting, sewing, and especially flower arranging. Yet, it was quilting that truly captured her passion. Peggy’s hands crafted quilts that are now treasured family heirlooms, each stitching a thread that ties together generations and preserves her loving touch.
A devoted member of Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, Peggy’s faith sustained and guided her throughout her days. She contributed to her church’s community in myriad ways, making lasting friendships and embodying her values in word and deed.
Peggy’s family was her deepest joy and greatest pride. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Bowman Stancil; her granddaughters, Jessica Stancil, Sarah Stancil, and Breann Lemon; and her great-grandchildren, Vada Edwards, Finn Clemons, and Harlow Clemons. She is also survived by her brother, James Bolick. Each of them carries forward memories of her kindness, patience, and creative spirit.
She now joins in rest her beloved husband of 57 years, Georgy Alton Bowman; her parents, Dewey Bolick and Mary Ruth McKinney Bolick; her brothers, Pete Bolick and Jr Bolick; and her sisters, Carolyn Butler, Linda Bolick, and Mary Lopez, all of whom preceded her in passing.
Friends and family are invited to gather in honor of Peggy’s remarkable life on July 25, 2026, at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, 9042 NC-127, Hickory, NC 28601. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Bradley Caldwell will officiate.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Rd Ste B, Newton, NC 28658.
